Project Binky - Episode 18 - Austin Mini GT-Four - Turbocharged 4WD Mini

In episode 18 of Project Binky, we wrestle with the wiper system, add another superfluous modification, tackle some trigonometry and sort of start on the electrical system. It's all systems go in the continuing effort to build one of the world's fastest Mini's.

Pythagoras was not needed, cos takes the adjacent length over hypotenuse. So once you found 33 deg, it writes out too: Cos(33)=44mm/x Rearrange to x=44mm/cos(33) Make sure your calculator is in degrees and not radians and you get 52.46mm. No pythagoras here.

Though as someone who recently did end up getting an SUV, I will observe, a car-seat is not likely to fit in the back of a mini.. That said, I do find it fascinating how regulations are driving cars smaller at the same time they seem to be driving car seats bigger. My folks managed to fit one into a Chevette, after all. The modern ones, well, that wouldn't have fit into a current Honda Accord. Actually, I won't fit into a current Honda Accord either, which was a touch surprising. Turns out the sun-roof is perfectly positioned for the ringing of the chimes...

I started life as an engineer, I'm now a mechanic, classic car restorer, welder, painter etc... or at least I thought I was till I started watching you guys... now I realise I know Jack... and need to go back to college but they don't have a geriatric section. I also realise that I need more time in the day as I need an engineering fix before I start work... one thing I definitely know is that this thing will weigh a tad more than Sir Alex originally designed. How about adding another 100bhp? I'm now going to murder my mate that told me to watch Project Binky......

You had a few unnecessary steps in your trig there: sine = opposite/hypotenuse hypotenuse = opposite/sine. So the length of the arm is simply 44mm / sin(57°) = 44 / 0.83867 = 52.464 mm

And if you’re curious, they’re a 2017 Toyota Sienna XLE, 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE, and a 2007 Pontiac G6 (base model) Edit: I feel very stupid, I did not realize what the definition of “auto wipers” were... I thought they were rain detecting auto on/off. All of my family’s cars have auto wipers..

'Discovered' these guys from an paintball web comic forum called 'The Whiteboard', and after watching all the Project Binky episodes up until now my best way to describe them is a couple of American mechanic radio celebrities Tom and Ray Magliozzi channeling Monty Python while building an car a la MythBusters. Not only that but as in this episode, they finally point out the practical application of all that math I had to learn way back in school! Can't wait to see the end of this project as well as whatever you have planned next! (and I am drooling over their build frame wishing they had plans available!)
