Here's another Q&A video; the second installment. Shot in a freezing cold workshop, we hope this explains some of the burning questions you might have. There's plenty of questions unanswered, so we might shoot another one, time willing. Don't worry, work continues on the Mini... Hope you enjoy it!

Hey my first car was also a Renault 5, known as the LeCar. it was quickly modified to a 1600 rally spec engine, lowered, painted, interior, to an Alpine Gordini clone. i loved it !

Who owns Binky? Nik and Richard talk as if it's Nik's car, but it's clear that Richard has put in an equal amount of time. The cost of the parts must be dwarfed by the time they have both put in to the project. So I hope the car will be jointly owned at the end.
RJM 2 kuukautta sitten
@Bad Obsession Motorsport But Richard has also put so much time and effort into the car and the videos. I think he's being hard done by if he doesn't get an equal share in the car.

I've seen some questions from American peeps about tea. Well, I'm not sure if regular tea is sold in the States [y'all just dump it in Boston Harbo(u)r!] or drink it cold (?). I think tea's regarded as insufficiently manly or unpatriotic or something. Whatever. If you can get your hands on some English-style Tetley teabags, here's a guide to an acceptable Binky brew. Important: Although I'm English, the first thing I'd say is that you should have your brew just the way YOU like it, no matter what anybody else says. :-) But if you're wondering about the standard British 'workshop' cuppa (also known as 'builder's tea' for its robust restorative effects if you've been swinging a pickaxe or laying concrete for a couple of hours), it goes thusly: Large mug. Put in tea bag. Put in several spoons of granulated (white) sugar. Add boiling water, and squash the teabag against the side of the mug. Leave it to brew (fester!) for a couple of minutes. Remove teabag and drop it down the back of the neck of your mate's overalls. Add full-fat milk to the tea to taste. Stir violently and enjoy. It's common to put the sugar in first so that the boiling water melts it (useful on a building site without access to a stirring spoon). Also, tea - being chopped-up leaves - requires actively boiling water to brew it, unlike coffee (made from more delicate beans), where the flavour benefits from water that's not quite boiling. It's largely frowned on to put the milk in the cup first when using teabags. The milk-first approach tends to be for pretentious people using a separate teapot to brew loose-leaf tea. Delicate cups, all quite snooty, sugar in little cubes, cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, yadda, yadda, yadda... Bah! Hot tea with sugar (or honey) and a slice of lemon instead of milk is... not something I should be discussing on a Channel like this. Tea with lemon is what ladies who do yoga and Pilates classes pretend to like. As with green tea, it's more of a punishment than a happy brew. Note: There is no such thing as iced tea. No. No such thing. Bad. Don't. No. Stop it. NO. Anyway, that's the regular British worker's brew. Not fancy, not 'healthy', but hot, sweet, loaded with caffeine and very effective. Dunking biscuits in it is a complex and controversial area which I'd better not get into here. Milk Chocolate Hobnob biscuits are a perfect accompaniment, though. Please note that dropping a scalding hot teabag down the back of your mate's overalls will raise a laugh here in England, but should NOT be attempted in Texas because... guns. ;-)

I would absolutely love to see a colab between Bad Obsession and Mighty Car Mods! I don't know what they'd come up with, but I'm almost certain it'd be "radical" and the show would be "AWESOME"!!! Keep up the great work guys!!!!

At 7:40 they say it takes three times longer when they are filming it. The best U.S.A. car repair channel is South Main Auto. Eric O also says it takes three times longer in the shop when filming it, that also in not counting post-filming production.

I write on behalf of the Royal Society of Blokes. We have been watching your efforts with interest for some time and conclude that you should be presented with our highest award of “Best British Blokes” (Automotive division). Your joint contribution to the ancient art of “Blokishness” takes us to entirely new heights. By the way, some viewers impatiently complain about your rate of progress. We disagree. We certainly need a very long lie down after an episode, so we’ll done on pacing. One final question: what do you do to relax in your time off?

Just revisiting this one... and loving it. Six years in and still going. Good thing you started this project when you were relatively young. I wonder if I went back to the start and compared the sounds of either of you getting down on the floor and then getting back up if I could hear the difference (huffing, creaks, general whinging). I do believe Mr. Blackhurst has gained some gray hair in the course of this project. Glad I discovered you gents and your strange obsession. In my dotage, I am just glad I never took on a similar project (actually I did take on similar projects, but I got paid and now I am retired). Thanks to both of you, I now understand what the expression "bloody minded" really means. Reminds me of the story of the two gents (Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Charles Burton) who circumnavigated the glove in the pole to pole direction ON THE SURFACE in 1979/1980. The Queen awarded them an OBE with the explanation that is was due to the sheer bloody mindedness. Thanks!!

My first and most loved car was a 1983 Renault 5 (Le Car) US version R1229 and had many of them during my lifetime until their demise. They weren't very fast but handled quite well and durable as all get out. Surprised and also somewhat honored to have owned a car that experts like you have once owned. Keep up the good work !!!!

One thing that Computer 3D Modelling (instead of cardboard) could bring to your component design; it's about 10-15% less weight. To improve on that you need alternative materials. Perhaps an entirely aluminium body shell (Has that ever been tried on a Mini?).

When I see the sheer effort needed to fabricate Binky, I cringe to think of how hard it would be to repair should you wreck it. That and the idea of some repair shop trying to make the repairs, realizing there is not a single part they could source and concluding it cannot be done.

The reason for putting the milk in first is because pouring boiling tea straight into a fine bone china cup from a teapot could crack it, by putting the milk in first, it lowers the heat shock and decreases the chance of this happening. However if you are using a mug, I don't see the point of putting the milk in first, it just makes it harder to gauge the tea to milk ratio accurately.

Surely the biggest frustration is watching yourself make a ton more unnecessary work for yourself on a whim . . . like when you cut into the sump. I KNEW the prospect of a Rex Hamilton cameo appearance was slim, but I can't help feeling a little let down now. Ffs guys will you please just finish the car? A "fix the sump" episode, a "build the engine" episode, pick off ALL the remaining tasks, then a quick cutaway to a painting montage, and an upholstery episode where you finish up by driving it about and telling us what you are doing next!
Joes WebPresence

I'd say at least five less episodes than it is actually going to take @Bad Obsession Motorsport but hey, you might decide to tinker with the gearbox, or fit lowrider suspension! So that's less than a dozen episodes, with at least one episode containing some kind of brief CGI rendered Rex Hamilton cameo appearance for contractual reasons. Thanks guys.
