I would like to add my two penny worth to the manifold debate those that think an even track manifold of equal length is necessary is mistaken, Mercedes F1 engine designers use a very similar stubby short track manifold on their exhaust side of their F1 cars because they realised it’s all about instant pressure not flow rates (even on the exhaust side) so this manifold will work really well and have minimal spool up time and not only that. It’s a work of genius...

Who owns Binky? Nik and Richard talk as if it's Nik's car and Nik's wallet, but it's clear that Richard has put in an equal amount of time. The cost of the parts must be dwarfed by the time they have both put in to the project. So I hope the car will be jointly owned at the end.

Wonderful following this. I had a “problem” with British cars for a fair bit, starting with a ‘61 Morris 850 (upgraded to a 1275 with dual SU carbs, tuned exhaust, racing type pistons, blueprinted and balanced, etc) that looked exactly like a factory Morris Mini, except for the beer van sized exhaust. Then a ‘69 Sprite, then a 2003 MINI. I have got better though... All that said, be traditionalists: go with British Racing Green and a Union Jack on the roof!

I saw instantly that Rich was passing the wiring harness through metal holes without grommets, and my first thought was "Why is he waiting on the grommets? What do I not understand." The answer was, "They are going to remove it ALL for the paint job." Never occurred to me that Rich had forgotten them. How could he have? Everyone posting that, has to have watched him lay out the wiring, with a spreadsheet no less. This is seriously hard, and involves a massive amount of repetitive crimping. AND you think he is going through all of that just to ruin his hard work by failing to put it through a grommet where it passes through a metal hole? Don't be daft.

Making brackets. Fifty years ago I was just out of school, working on a GM factory floor. My job was to make, with 6 other people, 3,600 power-steering brackets in 10 hours. We did this 6 days a week. Every other week we switched to making the air-conditioner pump mounting bracket. Notice that 6 people, using 6 power presses, fitted with bespoke dies, could bend flat sheets of steel into a complete bracket at the rate of 6 a minute, or one every 10 seconds. This is the power of mass-production verses hand-crafted. Essentially Nik is hand-crafting most of the body, and much of the ancillary running gear. The cost of the infrastructure to support that production rate at GM today would be about $50,000,000 or £40,000,000. The Economies-Of-Scale means that that capitol investment adds up to about $2.50 or £2.00 per part over the 10-year lifetime of both parts.

Thank you for this. I was advised to watch Project Binky by a comment on the Sampson Boat Co youtube channel, where Leo Sampson, from England, is in far northwestern U.S.A. rebuilding a 43 foot wooden sailboat. I binge-watched all of the 32 Project Binky videos in 3.5 days. So I am not up-to-date on your FAQ answers. By the way, aluminum, was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy, a Cornishman. The first name Davy proposed, in 1808, was alumium. In an 1811 Davy wrote, "...*might* be called aluminium or glucimium... ." Finally in 1812, in a textbook, Davy named it aluminum. If we follow the universal rule, that the discoverer of an element gets to name it, then the correct name is aluminum, which we use in the U.S.A. However the International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry states that the official name is aluminium. A name that Davy was clearly not settled on as the word "might" proves, and which ignores Davy's last definitive choice. Yours in true English measures: Inches, Feet, and Yards--Tom Oakhill

The boot holds just about 100% of ?? all so I personally would have put the radiator in there. Oil cooler and charge cooler rads would stay up front and the boot air flow louvres would look cool. IMO. Others might laugh.

Flexible brake lines do not expand. They are used in race cars end-to-end so why not use them in a road car? To be honest I would not have used them for fuel (cost) but hey they work just as well so why not.

Deaths horse might be white or pale or ashen according to Terry Pratchett, but going further back to the four horsemen of the apocalypse, mentioned in the last book of the bible, revelation,it could also be pale green ( like my t shirt )as this relates to the green tinge of death which comes from the Greek word chloros , which is green, like chlorine. This binky better be a dark green though, BRG ,as all proper minis should be ,......or else I’ll have to write something else ....instead! 🤨
MervinSkidmore 11 kuukautta sitten
KNOW THE LAW FOLKS...... BRG white roof - the only colour a single mini should be, IF you have 3 then your allowed to paint them red, white & blue........ (RTA 1969 sec C sub section 2, paragraph 7) - As stated in Bridger V Croaker "are those quartz iodine?" and the later reply "what do you mean written- off !".... this lead to charlie croaker being given a good going over (see Keets v camp freddie)
