With that sharp edged splash shield in the wheel arch... did you lower the car on its wheels and bounced it to full spring compression or will you end up like the junkie that had his crap car lowered and and every time there is a bump in the road he and bystanders can hear the 'unsprung mass' :D I am sure later videos will tell me about it... I am just placing my bets here as I am watching the series for the first time.

It occurs to me that a car is really just a big bracket for holding all the wheels, and seats, and engines, and stuff...

I still think I might have went with a cabin air filter (if a suitable one could be found, ive seen them quite small) If for no other reason, you can get the ones that claim to reduce allergens lol Probably doesn't really matter... a house air filter doubled up might would have done fine too. 36:58 sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do... years ago I installed a turbo kit on my Chevrolet Corsica (2.2L 4cyl, kit was for a cavalier I believe) they did not make a downpipe that would work for it... So I had to make a big bend in the exhaust right out of the turbo exhaust flange, I used 2 1/2 pipe and cut it approximately at 45 degrees and welded it back together to make a bend that came out just slightly tighter than a 90 degree bend... people were like "Ohhh thats a 90 degree bend it is restrictive." Yea but in that bend the pipe the passageway is a bit wider than the original 2 1/2 inch pipe...so its got a bit more room inside the pipe that it sounds like eh? lol (also the original exhaust was some tiny pea shooter size... like it was thin from the factory in that area for some of the same reasons. There was no other way to do it within my constraints.

For the HVAC air inlet did you consider using round tubing rather than the fabricated square inlet? Or is there an aerodynamic advantage to the square to round transition?

That manifold is surprisingly similar to the stainless one fitted to BMW 530 and 330 diesels of the 2000's. Y'know the one that cracks in multiple places after about 5-10 years and owners resort to fitting a previous model cast iron manifold.

I did the same type of release but I had mine slip with the flip front, It had a t shape piece that slipped into a fork with small guide wings right next to the rain channel. Sadly I sold that car but could show you a diagram lol.. was simple and the front flipped open while the cables stayed put.. Forgot to mention I love overly complex for absolutely no reason projects that benefit only your self and challenge yourself. Ive done a few .... PLUS I love how you guys do it "old-fashioned" CaD and everything you can by hand... Keep it up its amazing and I am fully interested in the 5 year build..

I'm very excited to see what effekt the manifold will have on the Dyno. Sure it is not optimal but is it good enough to were you won't notice it? Can't wait for the next one keep it coming :D

Always meant to ask: Did you guys have a flat left rear tire in that opening drive scene?

I realize I'm a couple years late to the party but did you guys consider a remotely mounted turbo. Instead of a muffler at the back of the car you have the turbo, you would install a filter somewhere above it in the boot with a side draft intake vent coming off the rear quarter panel. The water to air heat exchanger could be incorporated into the up pipe and an oil cooler incorporated into the feed lines going back to the cooler. Overall it would save on weight and space while giving you a chance to fabricate a few more brackets. Plus you could've used an equal length shiny tube header. Mmmm shiny tubes...

This car is going to be undrivable when you finish because of the simple fact that as the width of the wheel base approaches the length straight line stability becomes worse. In real life this means when you are travelling down the motorway in the wet the car will switch lanes by itself when you hit even the smallest bump. REAL engineering involves testing before production. You should have spent all the time and money trying to keep the width the same, it's not like it couldn't be done. If you had in fact tested like I have done and many other have you would have realised that no amount of quality fabrication will make up for how unpleasant and dangerous the car will be to drive. Also the many fabrications you have done will all rot away within 10 years of normal use unless you dip the vehicle in a paint bath. REAL engineering involves a lot more than making everything as strong as a brick shithouse. By fabricating your brackets etc to be stiffer than the chassis you create a vehicle with a hotchpotch of stresses and flex where the vehicle will behave differently when turning left than when turning right and under braking......obviously the term "a tuned chassis" has escaped you both. And talking of tuning you will probably find that the noise inside the cab has hums and droning sounds depending on what speed you are at. You should have enrolled on a mechanical engineering degree, completed the course then built a lightweight frame that you attached the Toyota running gear to then fit the Mini body shell on top. You would have finished by now. I could see the point to this project if you managed to produce a sports car that was strong and light and handled well without using Computer Aided Design but you haven't .This endless one fabrication on top of another has just created a heavy unevenly stressed rust bucket that handles like a dog. You should rename the channel "Bad Obsession Fabrication" because that is what you are obsessed with and certainly not motorsport.

People have said, "Don't be intimidated by wiring", speak for yourself, I'm intimidated. ;-)

Will it work? Yes. Will it flow like something designed for F1? No, but it's a mini so what does it matter. Also, having just watched all of these in the last few of days (late arrival I know), I would like to bring to your attention the solder splice. Damn sight easier to use than a crimp and far far more reliable for joining two pieces of wire together than any other method. So much so that they're used regularly in aircraft and in some instances they are all that is allowed to be used. As to the rest of the solder vs crimp thing, either when done properly is as good as the other, whatever you do though, don't do both to the same connection. To finish, I'd like to point out that you're all entirely bloody insane for dreaming this project up much less actually doing it. And more importantly, it's absolutely brilliant.

What thickness plate were you using for the manifold? Was it 2.5mm or 5mm?

Just caught up. Worked on the All-Trac when it was new, when I was at Toyota. I found it heavy and cumbersome in stock trim. That running gear is heavy as you already know. Concerns about spring rates so it doesn't ride like a log wagon on rail tracks? Love the panel lightening, but it my badly upset the sprung to unsprung ratios leading to a rather harsh ride at best. Ideas? Softer springs or progressives after some drive time? Should corner like a monorail tho.

Your videos have given me the courage to build my own brackets. Helped a friend with several for his engine swap, lawn mower modifications, a coat rack, pan hanger in the kitchen, wiring behind the TV and some plumbing for the tub!

There's one thing I don't get. Putting all these modern amenities in the Mini, only to leave the leaky factory windscreen rubber system to pour water over the dash, and floor, and ECU... The one thing I'd change on my Morris is to glue the screen on to stop the leaking.

I got an idea, have a foot pedal and a Bowden cable run to the hand terminal crimper to save your hands :D

There's no reason the manifold has to blow directly into the turbocharger. Duct the pretty multipipe manifold a few feet to an available space.

what, the bonnet catch release isn't a solenoid pull with a stylish button inside under the dash panel? i'm shocked, shocked i tell ya. i wouldn't have thought you'd miss the opportunity to have a posh way to open the bonnet. i mean, you spent so much time on the power catch release for the tilt front, i am surprised you settled for a cable for the bonnet release. must be slipping in your old age.

The manifold is brilliant. In BIG engine talk, it's called an exhaust gas receiver (egr) Usually bigger is better as it reduces pressure pulsations, but in that limited space it will have to do. Pulsations reduce the efficiency of the turbine.
